Ear infections occur when germs such as bacteria, viruses or fungi cause swelling and irritation of the ear. Infections in the middle ear are called otitis media, and infections of the outer ear are called otitis externa.
Eye infections are caused by bacterial or viral conjunctivitis when an infectious organism invades the conjunctiva layer. As the conjunctiva becomes more inflamed it swells and reddens. An infection in the surface layer of the cornea will result in a bacterial corneal and may spread into deeper corneal tissues. The ulcer causes inflammation within the eye itself however the viral corneal infections affect the cornea shortly after the conjunctiva is infected. When the surface layer breaks down the vision becomes blurred and the eye painful.
